Gary R., Erica N., and new member Brian Szywala were in attendance. They had a

meeting last week/were brought up to speed on project. Gary R. explained why he

wrote letter to Lee Daniels...ongoing concerns about intersection and Burger King.

Need to alleviate part of problem of traffic leaving and entering the restaurant. Could

Traffic & Safety committee recommend installation of a barrier that would stop people

from making that left turn heading south on to Main?

Can you look at intersection again...there is a proposed gas station for the S/E corner.

Let's keep moving forward in the right directions.

John Johnson: has budgeted for new tape for striping, feels that new striping is not a

problem...there is not enough room out there to put in a barrier. There are certain

guidelines that must be followed. Let's wait and see what kind of problems develop. Bill

Poole: no one can make a left turn out of there! John Jaugilas: thinks that we really

would have to wait and see what develops out there before we make any suggestions.

John Schwarz: the best thing is to wait and see...otherwise you will have people making

u-turns on other properties, etc. causing more disarray.

Greg Gron: asked John Jaugilas how far along they are in the process of acquiring

Burger King? John Jaugilas: believes they are well on the way.

Access Rd. is being built as part of Burger King. Greg Gron: a hodge podge of things

are happening here, and we are continuing the process by allowing more construction to

take place without handling the problems. There is a necessity for a road heading east

by Burger King. Mike Millette: right now they are only proposing a common drive/lot.

The Village of Lombard does not participate/the owner of property builds the road.

Conditional uses put on there in 1992. John Jaugilas: we will be monitoring the traffic

situation by Burger King. John Schwarz: when is Burger King planning on opening?

Gary Rothbardt: in July. John Schwarz: When is study going to IDOT? Mike Millette:

Civiltech is under contract and doing study.

Sandy D./Principal at Park View School and members of the Safety Committee were in

attendance. One of the busses from their school no longer qualifies as an unsafe bus

route. 27 additional students will be walking to school next year. Committee worked all

year, together with John Johnson. Are looking for direction from T & S Committee for a

safe route.

4 Areas involved:

Children that live on Glenview walk up St. Charles/cross from West Rd. at Eugenia

(west side of West Rd. to Eugenia) to Grove then take Grove to Elizabeth and Elizabeth

to school. Speed limit problem on West Rd. Possibility of cross walk on street by

Eugenia. Asking for Police to enforce speed limit there. Kids who live further down on

West Rd. to cross down by Grove and go to Elizabeth. Kids on south side of St. Charles

will walk on St. Charles to Elizabeth and cross at Elizabeth and St. Charles (crossing

guard there for Sacred Heart).

Safer to use West Rd. and enforce speed limit then have kids walk on St. Charles Rd.

John Jaugilas: get more enforcement for speed limit/possibly put speed sign up at the

beginning of the year. Then send some police out there to do some enforcement. More

young families buying homes on West Rd./more young children.

Principal: Looking for a possible crosswalk.

John Johnson: Add to our snow removal contract/remove snow on St. Charles Rd.,

then have kids take St. Charles to Elizabeth and cross there.

Safety Committee: Concern is that one wrong shove on St Charles Rd. and the children

are out in the middle of traffic. Average age of those kids are: one 3rd grader and the

rest are all 1st graders and kindergarteners. Still have the problem of traffic turning off

of St. Charles on to West Rd. Also, there are not a lot of Blue Star homes on St.

Charles.

Greg Gron: Why did the state change this determination?

Principal: This route should have been disallowed 3 years ago. Enforce speed limit and

cross as directed. Looking for help with snow removal on St. Charles and crosswalk on

West Rd. Shrubbery needs to be cut at Great Western Path. (John Johnson will talk

with DuPage County about this). Definately need to have this cut back for riders and

walkers.

Back to West Rd. Mike Millette: install a sidewalk for $8000 on West Rd. from St.

Charles to Eugenia. Greg Gron: Glenview dead ends into a private property? John

Johnson: yes... north and south on West Rd. (signs for Children crossing at crosswalk);

could even place Pedestrian Crossing Ahead sign, if necessary. Within 50 feet of

crossing, we will put crossing signs. Make sure that crossing guard that is on Elizabeth

and St. Charles knows times for Parkview School. What about enforcing that speed

limit on West Rd. at 20 miles per hour with hidden drives ahead? John Johnson:

advisories are not enforceable. Bill Poole: put the police down at bottom of hill. John

Johnson: speed limit will not be changed...over the next three years West Rd. will be

completly improved/once road is complete they will have sidewalks, etc. While under

construction, certainly don't believe there will be a problem.

LPD: We will try to enforce the speed limit in that area. Inform beat officers about this

problem. Will keep in touch with John Johnson for feedback.

Motion to suggest putting in the sidewalk: (get something from the school in writing as

to what their plan is, mitigating circumstances, etc.) Add to 50/50 program on June

18th. West side of West Rd. from St. Charles to Eugenia (sidewalk). Utilize crosswalk

at north side of Eugenia.
