Hogan, representing the Lombard Jaycees; Charlie Grimm, representing the Lilac

Parade Committee; Dave Hulseberg, Director of Community Development and Joelyn

Kott, Communications & Marketing Coordinator.

2005 Taste of Lombard fireworks. The grant request was $25,000. Sharon Kuderna,

2005 Taste of Lombard Chair and Jim Hogan, member of the Lombard Jaycees, were

present for questions.

President Mueller explained the grant application and that the grant request would be

used for the fireworks display on the Fourth of July. Mueller also explained that other

services, in addition to this grant, were also provided by the Village, i.e., security, fire,

public works, totally some $90,000.

Sharon Kuderna explained that the Taste is scheduled to go the same as always. No

big changes. It was discussed by the Jaycees that they are shopping around for the

best price for the fireworks as costs have gone up.

It was moved by Wilk, Sr., seconded by Payne, that this matter be recommended

to the Board of Trustees for approval in an amount not to exceed $25,000. The

motion carried by a voice vote

AA. Recommendation of Community Promotion & Tourism Committee- Grant

Request (Lilac Time Parade)

Recommendation of the Community Promotion & Tourism Committee approving a grant

request in the amount of $30,000 for the 2005 Lilac Time Parade.

The Lilac Parade Committee requested a grant for the Lilac Parade. Charlie Grimm

explained the parade budget for 2005. He also informed the committee that the Parade

Committee sent out letters this year to all Chamber of Commerce members asking for

donations or sponsors for the parade. He also mentioned that the Chicago Tribune was

no longer going to sponsor the parade and that cost the committee free advertising in

the newspaper and on WGN radio. He was currently negotiating with the Lombardian

regarding newspaper ads and was advised by Monica Brown to contact the Lombard

Spectator for other advertising options.

Mr. Grimm was also contacting the Daily Herald to get the word out regionally rather

than just locally in Lombard.

Mr. Grimm reported that the committee had commitments for about $1500 in

sponsorships but they had not received any funded as of yet. He also noted that the

majority of the money for the parade goes toward the honorariums to get the units to

participate.

Committee member Ed Murphy questioned where the private donations or sponsorships

are shown on the budget. Mr. Grimm explained that they were not shown because they

had not received the money yet. Mr. Murphy also questioned why they needed to start

off with a balance and Grimm explained that there are costs that occur throughout the

year and that they are aiming to lower the carry over balance each year. President

Mueller added that certain costs such as insurance fees and postage may come up

periodically throughout the year.

President Mueller reminded the committee that during the review of the Hotel/Motel Tax

budget, $30,000 was set aside for the parade committee.

Dave Hulseberg requested staff to look into getting a message on the water bills

regarding the Lilac Parade.
