The meeting was called to order at 3:08 p.m. by Chairperson Village President William |
Mueller. |
Also present: Skip Strittmatter, DCVB, Harley DeYoung, representing the Lombard |
Jaycees and Joelyn Kott, Communications & Marketing Coordinator. |
The minutes of the February 15, 2007 committee meeting were submitted for approval. |
Steve Wilk, Sr. made a motion to approve as submitted. Motion was seconded by Ed |
Murphy. Motion carried unanimously to approve the minutes as submitted. |
Grant Application from the Lombard Garden Club |
Grant request for $6000 from Hotel/Motel Funds for costs associated with the 2007 Lilac |
Bush Program. |
The Lombard Garden Club submitted a grant for costs associated with the free lilac |
bush program in the amount of $6,000. President Mueller announced that this funding is |
already in the budget. |
A motion was made by Steve Wilk, Sr., seconded by Ed Murphy, to approve a grant in |
an amount not to exceed $6,000 for the Lombard Garden Club. The motion carried |
unanimously. |
It was moved by Wilk, Sr., seconded by Murphy, that this matter be |
recommended to the Board of Trustees for approval. The motion carried by a |
voice vote |
Grant Application for 2007 Taste of Lombard |
Grant request from the Lombard Jaycees for $25,000 from Hotel/Motel funds for costs |
associated with the Fest and fireworks. |
The Lombard Jaycees submitted a grant for the annual July 4 fireworks in the amount of |
$25,000. President Mueller also announced that this funding was also already in the |
budget. |
A motion was made by Ed Murphy, seconded by Steve Wilk, Sr. to approve a grant in |
an amount not to exceed $25,000 for the Lombard Jaycees. The motion carried |
unanimously. |
It was moved by Murphy, seconded by Wilk, Sr., that this matter be |
recommended to the Board of Trustees for approval. The motion carried by a |
voice vote |
Skip Strittmatter reported on the DuPage Convention & Visitors Bureau meeting that |
was held earlier today. There was a 20 year review on the hotel industry in DuPage |
County. The new Schaumburg convention center is reportedly turning away business |
and has had an overall positive impact on the hotel industry. She indicated that it is |
projected that DuPage will see the same impact as Schaumburg is seeing once the |
Westin Hotel & Convention center is open as well. |
Ed Murphy asked that it be considered for the future that the scholarship checks that are |
presented to the Lilac Queen and her court be made out to the college or university that |
the individuals will be attending rather than to them personally. |
President Mueller announced that he has received numerous comments from people |
who have seen him on Comcast's “Newsmakers” recently. He was interviewed about |
Lombard and all the good things that are happening in the Village. He also mentioned |
that with that show, “190 North” and mentions in various magazines, that a lot of positive |
information is in the press about the Village. |
The meeting was adjourned at 3:20 p.m. with a motion by Ed Murphy, seconded by |
Steve Wilk, Sr.. Motion carried unanimously. |
