Kaforski-I sent away for this information regarding street lights. I thought perhaps it

could be another source. Looking through the older style street lights, they have one in

there with a different post. I noticed when we're replacing our old concrete posts, we're

using a thinner one and I don't like the looks as well. Did we have problems with the

concrete ones? Dratnol-Depending on the manufacturer, they do sometimes fall apart

rather fast. Steel poles are placed on foundation, concrete are direct buried.

Frerichs-Are the steel poles break-away for accidents? Dratnol-They're not, you can get

a break-away pole that is typically used in expressway conditions.

Dratnol-We talked to a couple of manufacturers, they're working on getting together

shop drawings. Sterenberg is coming to the next meeting for a presentation. D

Mahal-Does staff have a preference? Dratnol-For lower poles, direct buried is better.

Kaforski-Dave Arnold and I went out with a light meter. One of the things we noticed,

using the same type of luminaire on Harrison and CHAW, we got two different readings.

That same light in CHAW was fine and spacing is about 200'. Arnold-Is the wattage of

the bulbs the same as on S. Broadway? It looks completely different. Dratnol-Ahrens

has been in place for a few years so you are getting the effect of the dirty lenses now.

Arnold-They're also prism lenses. Kaforski-Maybe we should look at the spacing as one

of the design features, make them further apart. Dratnol-What dictates the spacing is

several things, height of the pole, lighting intensity, etc.

Arnold-Out of everything that we looked at, only three areas were new. If we were going

to pick a model for something, I would pick the CHAW area. Dratnol-I'll look at the

design criteria that was based on. Dratnol-We also have to be consistent with what's

required on the private side.

Frerichs-Do you clean them periodically? Dratnol-They relamp 1/3 of the town every

year. They do a modest cleaning then. It may simply be the difference of the globe

itself. That will have an impact on how bright it is.

Frerichs-Since the street lights have been installed on St. Charles Road, I've gotten a lot

of comments about how close they are together. Dratnol-They are the same distance

as downtown. The width of the road determines the distance between poles. Arnold-On

Parkside as you approach the Grace and St. Charles intersection from the west, the no

left turn sign does not light until that light turns green. Dratnol-We'll look at that.

Rickard-The 2002 report totals were incorrect. The correction brings the percentage to

under 2%. We still have one project from last year to close out. Lombard Hills East, Ph.

4 opened today. The low bid was R.W. Dunteman. Sebby-Is there any problem with

jobs going tot he same general? Dratnol-No, they did all four jobs last year and did a

good job on all of them. Sebby-What's happening with the Illinois Prairie Path lighting?

Rickard-It's on hold until we confirm that the grant is going to be released. We have

$200,000 from the DNR already. The Ad Hoc Trails Committee is also looking at the

intersection of Grace and St. Charles right now. They may look at trying to get grant

money for the Great Western Trail. For the Prairie Path lighting we do have a deadline

coming up. It has to be punched out and complete by June 2004.
