It was moved by Lyons, seconded by Mason, to approve. The motion carried by

Presentation by Karrie Gibson of Vintage Tech Recyclers

Karrie and Todd Gibson from Vintage Tech Recyclers in attendance. Gibson: passed

out literature to committee members. Discussion ensued. Committee reviewed the

changes to the setup for the Extravaganza this year regarding the Electronic Recycling.

TV's are $15.00 per; possibly $2.00 per computer monitor. Would like the forklifts again.

All cell phones are recycled to seniors and domestic violence victims. Committee

thanked Karrie and Todd for the presentation.

Taste of Lombard Booth

Mason: spoke to Ms. Brown about having a booth at the Taste of Lombard. Committee

will need to set up our own tent and take it down ourselves. We should pick a couple of

days. The 3rd,4th and 5th should be busy days. Gorman: I have a tent that the

committee can use; I will not be there. We are getting fluorescent bulbs. A coupon is

going into the PRIDE for them to bring to the ECC Booth at the Taste of Lombard.

Coloring books on water conservation

Banners

Extravaganza information

Dates: go with July 4th, 5th, 6th from 1PM - 5PM

Lyons: spoke with Lonnie Morris last night. She is going to get a rain barrel and we can

use it as a display at the booth. Need an artist to decorate the rain barrel.

Gron: keep this item on the agenda and establish schedule for the booth at the next

meeting.

Environmental Recognition Award Program

Schukat: found out that they no longer have this award program at Villa Park. Gron:

we could look at ways to tie this to the Business Awards Recognition Program. Keep

this on the agenda.

Prescription Drug Collection

Gron: spoke with our police chief, Ray Byrne. The Police Department is held to

different criteria than a church volunteer organization. This is just too much of a task for

the Police Department to undertake. Hildebrand: this was suggested to me by the State

of Illinois. Jendras: I went on the EPA website. They do have considerations for Take

Back Program. Federal Law states you do need to have police presence at the event.

Elmhurst is taking expired drugs and incinerating them. Hildebrand: at our last event

we collected 14 boxes of viable meds. They were sent to Bolivia, Ecuador and West

Africa. Five parishes were involved over a period of 3 weekends. Will make a decision

on this at the next meeting.

Committee directed Dave Gorman to send a letter to Montini requesting a representative

from the school to come to the next ECC meeting. Would like them to bring visual aids

or print out website information.

Jim Karls from Waste Management in attendance. Karls: passed out report to

committee members. Need to figure out a way for businesses to recycle.

Gron: maybe try to have a round table discussion of about 10 businesses and see what

happens. Bartt: are all businesses serviced by Waste Management? Karls: yes, and

that makes it somewhat easier to institute a program and/or pass ordinance to require

businesses to recycle. Gron: maybe start with glass, cans, etc. Gron: make this an

item for discussion on the next agenda.

Gorman: lead-acid batteries - Exide will take care of setting up, and they bring their own

people. There is no cost to us. Consensus of the committee is to go with this.

Gorman: gas cans were funded by Clean Air Counts. Consensus of the committee is

that they do not want to do this again this year.

Lyons: brought up a letter that Bill Mueller received from SIMS to do the electronics

recycling for free. Gorman: I know nothing about this letter. Gron: I know nothing

about this either.

Gorman: I was on radio and television today regarding Idling Cars for Clean Air Counts.

Some of the schools participated and volunteers were at the train station today for Earth

Day. We are getting a lot of good recognition for our Clean Air Counts activities.

Gorman: Trail Clean Up this Saturday 4/26; meet at Moran Water Park at 9:00AM.

Mason requested committee members fill out schedule for times at the Taste of

Lombard booth.

Lyons: collected lots of information regarding recycling, etc. Montini is doing a recycling

extravaganza over the next 2 weeks.

Gron: would like to see us incorporate all information and have some sort of an

environmental conference. Talk about some of the things that we have done for the

schools, vehicles, the Extravaganza, etc. Possibly call it an Environmental Conference.

Would have to be run by this committee. Laura Johnson: maybe have a "Green Living

Expo". Do this on Earth Day next year.
