Items for Discussion

Rosemary Kero-I have calls into 2 places for catalogs. The first place no longer sells |
these and the other place is out of catalogs. I've talked to the principal, we are doing |
construction, they were to be where new the construction will be, so we decided we |
should wait on this. If we purchased now we would have to store it anyway so we will |
apply for that next year and just go with items 1-6 now. |
It was moved by Lyons that this matter be recommended to the Board of |
Trustees for approval. The motion carried by the following vote: |
Aye:
Karr, Loebach, Schau and Lyons

Enactment No: Educational Recyclin |
Marilyn Mast Hewitt-All of these numbers would be covered with what Waste |
Management is providing. Just the service is the only thing we have left. We are going |
to use our children's programs for recycling propaganda. Burg-The total would be |
$2,160/yr. For multi-family we pay 6 months they pay 6 months. So, $1,080 is what we |
would pay. |
Adams-How often do people move out? Hewitt-They are usually there 3-4 years. |
Adams-So the bins are to stay? Hewitt-Yes, they stay and it's going in our housing |
manual and it will be part of our check out inspection. |
Burg-Since we don't pay up front, would it be appropriate if after 6 months they just sent |
us the bill or do you want to wait the year? Committee- Submit for reimbursement after |
the first full year. Berger-You don't want her to start until you get it approved. |
Hewitt-We've postponed it until we get clearance. So we could look at July 1 start? |
Burg-yes |
It was moved, seconded by Loebach, to recommended to the Board of Trustees |
for approval. The motion carried by the following vote: |
Aye:
Karr, Loebach, Schau and Lyons

Lyons-Since most are aware I convinced the Highland Medical Building to recycle. Their |
costs have really gone up. That brings me to asking Clarence is there something we |
can do? Clarence-Tell her to call me. Lyons-What about this commercial grant? I don't |
know anything about it. Loebach-It's supposed to be for people that are starting up a |
program. Burg-We have that nifty meet and compete claus in the contract. The |
contract says this is the maximum amount they can charge. Loebach-They can talk to |
Clarence about another container and get a quote from another hauler. The way the |
grant has always worked is they come to us before they start the program. |
Clarence-Tell her to give me a call and I'll stop over and talk to her. Schau-How do we |
advertise that program? Loebach-We don't. It has been promoted in the past. but we |
didn't get great response on that. Soderstrom-If the objective is to reduce her costs, |
Clarence could work with her, that will help her. Lyons-Then lets just leave it that |
Clarence will work with them to try to reduce their expenses. I'll tell them to contact |
Clarence. |

Fall Recycling Extravaganza |
The committee discussed the two proposals for electronics recycling. |
Schau-In the whole scheme of things what percent fell into electronics? If it's a demand |
out there by the community, is it worth thinking about passing this charge onto those that |
bring stuff in? |
Clarence Berger-I saw an article that the EPA is considering calling computers |
hazardous. Loebach-They haven't been banned from the landfill yet. Burg-At the next |
meeting we have to decide for publicity purposes. Florey-What if we threw them out? |
What would Clarence charge us? Berger-I would put a regular trailer in, maybe the |
junker would take it. Burg-I thought the committee wanted it recycled. Lyons-That is the |
point. Florey-If we don't recycle the electronics they're going to end up in the landfill |
anyhow. It's more about providing a service. Lyons-If we don't take it this year they'll |
show up with it anyhow. Burg-We got about 20% of our volume from outside Lombard. |
I don't know that we would want to subsidize all that. |
The committee discussed the assignments for this years extravaganza. |
