The Student Board members and student staff were each individually introduced by

Clerk Gerhardt after which President Mueller presented each of them a Certificate of

Appreciation for their involvement. Upon Roll Call by Student Village Clerk Nguyen, the

Student Trustee Badsing read a report of the meeting held on Tuesday April 25, 2000.

At that meeting the Committee approved an educational grant to Sacred Heart School

for their studies about landfills and pollution, which is an item on tonight's Consent

Agenda. The Committee also recommended a reduction of a recycling fund expenditure

by single chipping instead of double chipping in the chipping program. They also

discussed a "Parkway Pride" program which would be similar to adopt a road and a

Community Recycling Day where collection of electronics, scrap metal, gym shoes and

books could be done. Volunteers are needed for the May 23 event.

Student Trustee Badsing reported that Trustee Sebby had not been at the last meeting

and asked if the Public Works Director wanted to comment. Student Director of Public

Works, Amanda Soehren reported that Trustee Borgatell had filled in for Trustee Sebby.

She reported that the Committee had recommended extending the Dust Control

Contract for 1 year, West Road was discussed as well as Public Works Week. The

Helen Plum Library will feature a display honoring Public Works during Public Works

Week.

Student Assistant Village Manager Priscilla Sarmiento reported that there had been a

Special Blood Drive on Wednesday May 3, "Make A Difference Day". She extended

thanks to all the residents who did make a difference by giving a total of 121 pints of

blood. She reported that some staff members had attended a seminar on "Violence in

the Work place" and that some employees had participated in the March of Dimes 5 mile

walk in Elmhurst on April 30th.

It was moved by Trustee Tross, seconded by Trustee Schaffer, to pass the

Consent Agenda, to suspend the rules, waive first reading and pass on second

reading, waive competitive bidding and award contracts approve and adopt

resolutions as needed for the following items and as read by the Clerk on the

Consent Agenda. The motion carried by the following vote:

Student Public Works Director Amanda Soehren gave a report of the benefits and

problems associated with this type of program. She said that cleanup could be done

quarterly with assigned sections two miles long. The program would be on main arterial

streets such as Main Street, St. Charles, Finley Road and Highland Avenue. Also

recommended for the program were the Prairie Path and the Great Western Trail which

would require the County's permission . She concluded saying that the program could

be publicized on TV 6 and in the Pride. She said staff recommended adoption of the

program.

Student Director of Community Development, Stephanie Boettcher, reported on the

history of the Dairy Queen sign. She said that due to special historical significance, the

Lombard store being one of a very few Dairy Queens that still have the sign and

because Eleanor Roosevelt had ice cream there, staff is requesting adoption of a

resolution of historical significance.

A report was given by Student Assistant Village Manager Priscilla Sarmiento on the

costs per plan for insurance renewal.

Student Trustee Calvario disclosed at Trustee Tross' request, that Trustee Tross buys

his insurance at full cost from the Village.

Student Trustee Badsing disclosed at Trustee Sebby's request that Trustee Sebby buys

his insurance at full cost from the Village.

Student Trustee Hwang asked that this amendment not be made due to the parking

problems that Glenbard East Students already have. Student Trustee Calvario said

that in this area as well as other areas, the students have brought parking problems on

themselves by littering, loitering and bothering the neighborhood. Extensive discussion

followed with the students pleading for parking to be allowed and the point being made

that the matter of providing parking is not necessarily a Village issue but a School issue.

Student Trustee Robbins recommended a motion which was seconded by Student

Trustee Evans that this matter be tabled indefinitely until the Transportation Committee

has a chance to meet with the Glenbard East Student Council.

It was moved by Trustee Schaffer and seconded by Trustee Florey that the student

recommended motion be approved. Upon roll call, the motion carried by the following

vote:

Aye: Trustees Borgatell, Schaffer, Sebby and Florey

Nay: Trustees Tross and Kufrin

Student Trustee Calvario asked that if the signs are up under Police jurisdiction could

they be taken down.

Student Village Attorney Stacey O'Connell reported that she had met with a Student

Council advisor brainstorming ways for the community to participate. She said that one

idea that came up was a Homecoming Parade and another idea was for businesses to

help sponsor Student Council Activities for Homecoming. Student Trustee Hwang said

that the community promotion of Homecoming would heighten Lombard Pride.

Student Trustee Robbins urged more participation by members of the community.

Stacy O'Connell added that when things come up like the Parking issue, if the

community was involved with students in Homecoming activities, they would figure out

that not all students get into trouble and cause problems like the littering and other

parking related incidents.

Student President Snobeck thanked Mr. Carter and Mr. Zima for all their work in

arranging Student Government Day and Dr. De Fazio who always works hard, also

everyone at the Village for arranging the food, the tours and demonstrations. Snobeck

further thanked all the Village officials that made Student Government Day possible.

She reminded all of the Lilac Coronation and Craft Fair on Sunday.

President Mueller thanked the students for their participation and their manners saying if

all the students at East were like them we would have no problems. He also extended

Congratulations to Glenbard East for their 40th Anniversary.
