Character Counts Chairman Larry Bouldin presented the American Youth Character |
|
Awards to the following students: Garrettson Blight, Randall Hill and Amy Rasmussen. |
|
Honorable Mention Awards were given to Michael Czuba, Jason Hollowed and Matt |
|
Wolski. Nominees were Admair Tajuddin, David Vo and Kelly Krause. |
|
Trustees Kufrin and Schaffer presented the Business Recognition Awards to John |
|
Callas of Omega; Mike Pasquinelli and Mike Pasquinelli, Jr. of Pasquinelli Builders. |
|
Fire Chief Seagraves and Lt. Chuck Ralis gave the Good Neighbor Award to Joe Patelli |
|
for his efforts in extinguishing a sire at a neighbor's house and escorting the neighbor to |
|
safety. |
|
Proclamations were read regarding Student Government Day May 21, 1998; Show Your |
|
Colors Day beginning May 25 through November 7, 1998; Jim O'Connor Day May 21, |
|
1998 and Barbara McIntyre Day May 22, 1998. |

President Mueller turned the Public Hearings over to Village Attorney Thomas Bayer |
|
and Student Attorney Calvario who reviewed the request of the Lombard Park District to |
|
have the Village of lombard vacate portions of Broadview , north Avenue and north of |
|
Crystal and the vacation of a portion of Sunset west of West Road and east of |
|
Columbine. |
|
He invited testimony pro and con. No one spoke for or against. |

Attorney Bayer adjourned the Public Hearing at 8:15 p.m. |

President Mueller convened the Public Hearing at 8:16 p.m. to hear testimony regarding |
|
the vacation of the right-of-way of the Village. The meeting was turned over to Attorney |
|
Bayer who then reviewed the issue of vacating the right-of-way property on South |
|
Edson north of Roosevelt Road. Attorney Bayer invited testimony. The Public Hearing |
|
was adjourned at 8:17 p.m. |

The Finance Committee met on May 20th and various items were discussed including |

ambulance rates which were not raised at this time. |

The next meeting is in June and will discuss possible convention site. |
|
The Village of lombard will be using the DCCVB resources which will be made available |
|
regarding lombard's hosting of the National Citizens Police Academy Conference in |
|
1999. DCCVP, the Village of Lombard and Northern Baptist Seminary are in conference |
|
discussing possible future use of Northern Baptist's Conference Center. |

|
The Taste of lombard shuttle bus services were reviewed. |
|
Grant applications were discussed. |
|
A Special meeting of the Community Promotions and Tourism Committee will be called |
|
to discuss and make recommendation for the Lombard grants requested by the DCCVB. |

The Committee will meet on June 1 and is open to the public.

Agenda Items for Discussion
A. Administrative Report
|
Student Village Manager Ramira reviewed the monthly report by having each |
|
department head report on their own department. |
B. Discussion by Student Government Day Participants
|
Various student suggestions were made concerning Character Counts. It was |
|
suggested that a full day might increase attendance on Character Counts half-day, |
|
rotating class throughout the semester rather than one-half. Notification to parents |
|
about Character Counts so they would not five their children unexcused absences. |
|
Must develop student ownership feeling. It is a total Village program and more people |
|
need to know about it and support it. Students asked opinion of elected officials. It was |
|
announced that the program is being brought to total community. Student President |
|
took the opportunity to explain to the public what Character Counts means and what it |
|
hopes to accomplish. Students expressed appreciation to the total staff and the Village |
|
Board for Student Government Day. |

President Mueller thanked everyone and congratulated the students for a fine job. The |
|
students in turn thanked the Village for the opportunity to learn more about government. |
