| It was moved by Bartt, seconded by Adams, to approve the Minutes of the April |
| 22, 2008, meeting. The motion carried by a voice vote |
| Recycling Education Grants |
| Requests from Glenbard East High School in the amount of $3,516 and Montini Catholic |
| High School in the amount of $2,500. |
| Mr. Misialek showed the minipond kit to the committee members and explained their |
| use. The kits will be used by the Environmental Science and Biology classes. |
| Mr. Billings demonstrated the air quality test kit. The idea is a small group of students |
| per kit. Inside each kit are several smaller kits for testing specific |
| components/pollutants. |
| It was moved by Jendras, seconded by Lyons, that this matter be recommended |
| to the Board of Trustees for approval. The motion carried by a voice vote |
| Solid Waste Contract - Update |
| Karls passed out trend charts. Trends are looking pretty good. The larger container |
| residents have, the more they will recycle. Karls mentioned that Waste Management is |
| working on a number of "Green" programs. |
| 2008 Recycling Extravaganza |
| Gorman informed the committee that due to construction on the Village complex, the |
| Extravaganza will be moved to the Northgate Plaza. The committee reviewed the new |
| site plan. |
| Clean Air Counts |
| Lyons suggested that anti-idling signs be installed at banks, etc. Gorman pointed out |
| that the anti-idling campaign will probably be an annual event. |
| Prescription Drug Collection |
| Taste of Lombard Booth |
| Lyons mentioned to Ralph Borgatell that maybe he can demonstrate his bike at the |
| booth. Staff will have the Extravaganza banner and a rain barrel at the booth. |
| Chairperson Gron and Trustee Tross discussed giving away CFL bulbs at bingo. |

| Environmental Recognition Award Program |
| Commercial Recycling |
| Lyons stated that there was not any recycling available at the Memorial Day ceremony |
| at the park. |
| Rain Barrel Program |
| Recommendation of the Environmental Concerns Committee establishing a Rain Barrel |
| Grant Program. |
| Gorman reviewed the proposed program. Reimbursement will be $80/barrel 2 barrel |
| maximum. It will go to the Board on June 19th will take effect July 1st. |
| Jendras commented that she went to an exposition at which there was a booth about |
| composting. It made her think that if the Rain Barrel Program works out, perhaps the |
| committee could consider doing the same type of program for home compost bins. |
| It was moved by Adams, seconded by Bartt, that this matter be recommended to |
| the Board of Trustees for approval. The motion carried by a voice vote |
| Mr. Hildebrand told the committee that he would like to put in a paper retriever for use |
| by the downtown businesses, however the Village denied the request. Adams explained |
| that recyclers have to be licensed through the Village. Bartt suggested that perhaps the |
| Waste Management toters could be used. Chairperson Gron explained that by |
| ordinance they have to have a license and at this time all available licenses have been |
| issued. Gorman further explained that the purpose of the ordinance is to have control |
| over the heavy trucks driving on Village streets. |
| Gorman pointed out that there are other issues one of which is that it's proposed to be |
| on public property without screening. Part of the problem with that is these are |
| flammable materials, also we would lose a parking space. |
| This item will be added to the next agenda. Staff will look at the site plan and Mr. |
| Hildebrand can bring information from the proposed recycler. |
