Call to Order and Roll Call

The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Sebby at 7:33 p.m.

Approval of Minutes

It was moved by Mahal, seconded by Kaforski, to approve the minutes of the

January 14, 2003 meeting. The motion carried by a voice vote

It was moved by Kaforski, seconded by Blakeslee, that this matter be

recommended to the Board of Trustees for approval. The motion carried by the

Burg-I contacted a few companies that I got off the Internet. Two (2) returned my phone

call. Of the two, one didn't have powerful enough lights. The other had a powerful

enough light and cost $4500 per installation. $235,000 would include replacement

batteries which last about 5 yrs. Keith Surges got the cost for ComEd lights, $91,000.

With ComEd you would have to continue paying the same rates. It would be a payback

of about 13 years if you do the solar lights. You also have to account for knockdowns,

we don't always catch the person. Dratnol-You also have to keep in mind that when we

light a neighborhood, it's about $3500-$4000 per light. Sebby-I can understand not

using them in large areas, what about using them like on the Prairie Path? Dratnol-I

don't see using them in a developed urban area like this. The solar panels are very

unsightly. They're good in isolated rural areas. An area like the Prairie path where you

don't have the visibility, they can be a target for vandalism. Sebby-The ComEd lighting,

does the 49 lights include extra lighting for Schafer school? Rickard-It's just the

intersections. Sebby-$20,000 a year doesn't sound too terrible.

Rickard-Eventually we would want to come in with our own lights. Sebby-Would the

wire come from the backyard easement? Rickard-There would be some. There is

some underground there.

It was moved by Kaforski, seconded by Mahal, to recommend approval to the

Board of Trustees installation of additional ComEd lighting. The motion carried

by the following vote:
