Timeline

Anderson reviewed the draft timeline. Lyons voiced a concern regarding the timing of

initial letters going to the schools. She felt May might be too late. Adams explained that

it's just the letter notifying them of the date. Adams questioned the timing of the initial

contact with the Recyclers. What will happen if someone does not want to do it.

Anderson responded that Staff would just find another company. Adams was also

concerned about electronics. Anderson explained that is why staff will do that in May.

Adams asked what would happen if we get a terrible price. Anderson responded that

Staff would let the Committee know at that time.

Materials

There was a consensus to accept the same materials as last year.

Rotary Bicycle Collection

Lyons asked if this is the same as the collection that Kay McKeen does. Anderson

answered that he did not know. He added that he talked to Dennis McNicholas, they

(Rotary) have been doing it for a while on a smaller scale. They're looking at kicking it

up and doing it twice a year. They're doing one in May and that's the advertising they

were looking for. Bartt asked what they do with the bicycles. Anderson responded that

some go to the inner-city and some go overseas. The Rotary would like to do it in

September too, however, not necessarily in the same place. Realistically we don't

really have space for it here, but that doesn't mean they couldn't do it someplace close

by. Chairperson Gron asked how long they've been doing it? Anderson told him about

two or three years, but they haven't really pushed it in Lombard. Adams pointed out that

if they do it in conjunction with the Extravaganza, you may end up with a lot of bikes on

top of the recycling that's being dropped off.

Anderson asked the Committee if they were interested in considering it. Adams felt that

it could pose a problem. Bartt added that if the publicity were clear it should be OK.

Jendras commented that she would be more interested in doing it at the Extravaganza if

there is room Anderson suggested that one option may be to close one of the other

streets. Lyons thought the idea of doing at Hammerschmidt School was good. Adams

pointed out that there will need to be some way of shuffling bikes at the end of the day.

There was a consensus to participate. Anderson will talk to Dennis McNicholas.

Lyons informed the Committee that she will be doing a gym shoe collection again and

hopefully there will be a box at the Village Hall. She also informed them that April 19th

is the blood drive.

Bartt pointed out that compared with other schools that have a large enrollment, they

have only 78. Jendras commented that last time they asked for the incubators it was

not approved. She also asked if the school was informed that it was not approved

because the Committee has an issue with livestock and possible zoning problems.

Lyons added that she did not agree with the buses for the field trips. Adams agreed that

the Committee has voted down transportation on other requests. There was a

consensus among the Committee members to approve only the first three (3) items on

the request, those being: Delta science module (pollution) complete kit, Eyewitness

Earth Science Library for grades 2-6 and Power of Science Ecology Kit.

Bartt commented that the Committee has approved picnic tables for them in the recent

past. Jendras commented that she disagreed with the tables, however, the bike racks

do encourage bicycling which is better for the environment. Lyons added that in the

past Waste Management has donated receptacles to schools. Anderson responded

that he thought these were more alike to the receptacles that the Village put on the

Prairie path and what Waste Management would donate would be wheeled toters. Gron

pointed out that wheeled toters would not stay in place. General discussion ensued

regarding the picnic tables.

There was a consensus among the Committee members to approve the bicycle racks,

receptacles and one (1) table.
