Johnson: Referred to memo. Township & state are involved also. We can pass the |
ordinances, they will have to post the streets. Doing traffic counts next week on |
Harrison. In the following week I have a meeting with township to find out what their |
intentions are, discuss traffic counts, etc. All of this needs to be coordinated with |
township to make it work. They have already posted Harding "No Left Turn". During |
construction, we had posted restrictions there. |
Schwarz: (to Johnson) Finley Rd. is Lombard jurisdiction. Johnson: This would be "No |
Left Turn" on to their road. Soderstrom: How can village restrict a vehicle turning on to |
a township road? Schwarz: The problem would be with enforcement. It is up to the |
village what they want to do with those intersections at Finley. Kuehl: I live on Finley |
and follow all of the traffic home every night. The construction took them off of Harrison |
and brought them down to Charles Lane. Schwarz: Harrison cannot make a left hand |
turn on to Rte. 53 now. Tross: All we are asking you to do is to post "No Left Turn" at |
Charles Lane when township posts Madison and Harding. Gron: When will Harrison be |
opened? Johnson: It is open now. Soderstrom: Finley Rd. was never an issue that we |
were going to address. By putting this here, with no left turns at any of these streets, we |
are going to create a huge jam somewhere. I understand the concern for Charles Lane. |
Harrison need not be posted since it is already pork chopped? Tross: Once again let |
me clarify, all I am asking for is that every intersection be posted so that we can enforce; |
petition the State that Rte. 53 at Madison, Harding, Charles Lane, and Harrison be |
posted "No Left Turn". |
Schwarz: How much traffic do we force up to Harding with the restriction at Harrison? |
Johnson: It went from around several hundred to twenty five hundred. Schwarz: My |
assumption would be that this traffic is coming north or south on Finley? Kuehl: There |
is a "No Left Turn" sign at Harding at Rte. 53. Tross: So all traffic is going over to |
Charles Lane. Schwarz: Who is going to coordinate this with IDOT and the township? |
Soderstrom: The board would direct staff to do this. Kuehl: How about "No Left Turn" |
signs with hourly limitations 6-9am and 4-6pm at Charles Lane and Rte. 53 and Charles |
Lane at Finley? |
Soderstrom: Let's split this into three separate items. |
Item 1 - post "No Left Turn" off of Rte. 53 s/b on to e/b Harrison and w/b Harrision on to |
Rte. 53(assuming that signs will be put up at Harding and Madison). |
Item2 - restrict left hand turns off of w/b Charles Lane on to Rte 53 and off of Rte. 53 s/b |
on to e/b Charles Lane. (Send to the Board with No Recommendation) |
Item 3 - restrict n/b Finley Rd. from turning left on to Charles Lane, Harrison, Harding, |
Madison. (No Motion Made) |
Kuehl: But isn't there any thing else we can do? This is going to create a strangler. |
Soderstrom: Board recommended that all intersections would be right in and right out. |
It was moved by Schwarz, seconded by Kuehl, that this matter be recommended |
to the Board of Trustees for approval. The motion carried by the following vote: |

Johnson: Reviewed his memo and findings. Bedard: It looks like only one accident. |
Schwarz: Nothing in John's report would warrant the 4-way stop. |
Schwarz: Let's have the Village look in to enhancing the visiblity of signs with the |
reflective red strips (I have seen these by schools, and in Westmont) and chevrons on |
curves and also edge lining at curbs. Committee directed staff to make these changes |
and address these issues. |
It was moved by Schwarz, seconded by Gron, that this matter be recommended |
to the Board of Trustees for denial. The motion carried by the following vote: |

Johnson: This is basically a dead end area. We have dead end signs posted at |
entrances to the subdivision and on Rte. 53. Either residents, friends or their guests are |
the ones that are speeding through here, not cut through traffic. |
Schwarz: Is this dead end posted on Rte. 53? Johnson: Yes, at Meadow and Rte. 53. |

Millette: Reconfiguration of St. Charles and Grace, we have preliminary plans. |
Schwarz: Have staff look at driveway at Church of Nazarean on Rte. 53. There is no |
stabilized shoulder out there. Will forward to private engineering. |
Cuny: We have a ride along program and any committee members can come and ride |
along for part of a shift. Gives you more of an idea what it is like to go out and patrol an |
area. Call ahead and let the desk know when you will be coming in. |
