Ellen Balsamo in attendance to answer any questions that the committee may have

about Citi-Suburban Taxi Company.

Kuehl: how many cabs do they operate? Balsamo: may say in the application.

Somewhere in the area of 15-20 cabs. Bedard: do we know if any other villages still

inspect the way we used to? Balsamo: Downers Grove does. Gron: do they have

many aliases? Ellen: a lot of the companies (especially smaller companies) are

licensed this way. Soderstrom: do they have all of these names on their cabs?

Balsamo: I do not know, but we can have them show us a cab to see. Normally they

have the parent company name. Gron: seems it would be kind of confusing. Balsamo:

we have one contact number and they do answer Citi-Suburban Cab. Pool: since other

towns have approved, we should welcome the competition. Kuehl: these are people

rides, not packages? Balsamo: yes, smaller companies normally only transport people.

Soderstrom: do you think that having 5 companies would be beneficial to the village?

Balsamo: yes, I agree with Mr. Pool that competition would be good. Soderstrom: does

the owner live in town? Balsamo: yes, he does. Soderstrom: could we ask for the

owner to come to the January meeting so we could speak with him in person? Gron: I

have a problem with approving someone without being able to ask him questions and

talk with him. Balsamo: that would also give us some time to check with some of the

references and report back.

It was moved by Pool, seconded by Kuehl, that this matter be tabled. The

motion carried by the following vote:

Johnson: explained that safety reasons would certainly entitle this.

Soderstrom: my only concern is that when Dick Tross came to me with this request, he

said it was for business purposes. I worry about a precedent being set due to the fact

that your request is more for personal reasons than for business. Johnson: based my

recommendation on the information I was given. Bedard: is there any reason why all of

this was not posted to begin with? Cuny: becomes a logistical nightmare . We need to

constantly be watching, timing, etc. Gron: I have a problem with the precedent that this

is setting with a personal parking situation. Terry Hawkins: I have a driveway, but it will

only hold 2 cars. Kuehl: you have 2 cars yourself? Terry Hawkins: yes I do. Kuehl:

your cars would not be on the street at all? Terry Hawkins: no, it would be my visitors.

Kuehl: asked Dane if he saw a problem with this? Cuny: no, we have not been

approached by anyone over the years for this. Lepins: how long do people normally

stay? Terry Hawkins: normally 45 minutes.

Cuny: included the October report. Have been running about a week behind. IDOT

grant has provided for 2 new officers, and they are doing a great job with traffic control.

Also have to support State highways. They are out there to provide traffic enforcement.

Gron: Speed patrol hours - does this fluctuate? Cuny: yes. Gron: any feedback on

DUI's? Cuny: we have about 92-93% conviction rate. Key is collecting and maintaining

evidence. We are good at doing this. Bedard: could you graph this information for us?

Cuny: yes, I am working on this.
